Walking through Dénia's old town (El Casco Antiguo) feels like stepping back in time. The medieval castle towers over the town, offering not only a rich history but a spectacular view over the coast and the surrounding mountains. Dating from the 11th century, it is the town's pride and a genuine must-see.
Below, in the old town's narrow streets, you find white houses, bright flowers and a wealth of welcoming little squares. Calle Loreto, one of the most iconic, is the street for tapas lovers — we are very fond of Casa Benjamin and Dexcara. Pull up a chair at one of the many genuine little restaurants and taste the region: the famous gambas rojas, Dénia's red prawns. There is a great covered market here too, where residents do their shopping and stop for a bite and a drink.
Living in the old town
In the heart of Dénia you find characterful homes full of atmosphere: renovated townhouses with patios, and apartments in the traditional style. You live within walking distance of the shops, the restaurants and the weekly market with its fresh local produce. Perfect if you like history and a bit of life around you.

Las Marinas
Long, wide sandy beaches, perfect for families. Shallow water and excellent facilities — beach bars, restaurants — make this a favourite with all ages.
Las Rotas
For anyone who loves the outdoors, the rugged rocky coves of Las Rotas are a dream: crystal-clear water and quiet spots to snorkel or kayak. Cala Punta Negra is well worth seeking out.
Living on the coast
The coastal neighbourhoods of Dénia are particularly popular with international buyers. Las Marinas has modern apartments and villas close to the beach. Las Rotas offers more exclusive homes with a more natural feel, often with large gardens and sea views.
Dénia's lively harbour
Dénia is a harbour town through and through, and you feel it everywhere. In the Puerto Deportivo, the smart marina, impressive boats lie moored while you enjoy a drink on one of the stylish terraces. At the same time Dénia has a working fishing harbour, where fresh fish is landed and sold every day. There are several good restaurants out on the pier — and, funnily enough, La Cubanita here is really rather good.
What makes Dénia unique is the ferry link to the Balearics. Within a couple of hours you are on Ibiza or Mallorca — a lovely option for a spur-of-the-moment weekend. How good is that? It isn't even expensive, and you are there in no time.
Tip
The harbour is also the setting for plenty of events, such as the annual red prawn competition, where chefs from all over the world compete over the best gamba roja.

The area around the harbour offers a lively mix of upmarket apartments and charming townhouses. You live in the middle of it all, with the beach, the restaurants and the shops within easy reach.

There is plenty for watersports too, from sailing and windsurfing to diving in the clear water off Las Rotas. And did you know Dénia has been named a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy? The landscape is only half of it — the cooking is remarkable. There are a good number of Michelin-starred restaurants here, including one with three stars.
