La Nucía
Destiny by Bergen, La Nucía
About this property
The property
At Destiny by Bergen you are not just buying a new-build apartment with a pool and terraces. Here the location matters at least as much as the home itself. The project sits right next to Ciudad Deportiva Camilo Cano in La Nucía: a large sports area where people train every day, matches are played and national and international athletes and teams come to stay.
That makes Destiny interesting for two groups that would not normally end up at the same new-build project: people who like to organise their lives around sport and exercise, and buyers who look at how attractive a home is as an investment.
The first phase consists of 64 apartments and penthouses with two or three bedrooms. Prices for the homes still available range from €382,000 to €562,000.
The homes have a modern, practical layout. Living room, dining area and kitchen together form one open living space, with large windows facing the terrace. The kitchen comes with integrated Bosch appliances, and every home has its own parking space and storage room.
Almost all apartments have outdoor space on two sides, facing east and southwest. That is pleasant if you spend a lot of time outdoors: after an early training session you can have breakfast outside, and later in the day the other side gives you another spot in the sun, or in the shade.
There are apartments with two and three bedrooms, ground-floor homes with their own garden and penthouses with larger terraces. Which home in the project is the most interesting therefore depends very much on why you are buying. For your own use, the terrace, the sun and the position within the complex may weigh more heavily. For an investment, we also look at the layout, the number of bedrooms, accessibility and the potential target group for that particular apartment.
Living in the middle of a sports city
This is what really sets Destiny by Bergen apart.
Ciudad Deportiva Camilo Cano is much more than a municipal sports park with a few football pitches. In recent years La Nucía has invested heavily in sports infrastructure and has become a destination for training camps, competitions and sporting events.
In and around the sports complex you will find facilities for football, athletics, tennis, padel, swimming, fitness and a range of indoor and outdoor sports, among others. There are also walking and cycling routes in the area.
For an athlete, that changes the daily rhythm considerably. You do not have to drive twenty minutes before you can train. According to the project information, several sports facilities are about a two-minute walk from Destiny.
A quick training session before work, the padel court in the afternoon or ending your training day in the pool: here those are realistic everyday options, not facilities that only look good in a brochure.
The area is also interesting for cyclists, triathletes and other endurance athletes. You are not in the middle of a busy seafront, but on the edge of the Costa Blanca hinterland, while the coast and towns such as Benidorm and Altea stay close by.
What is more, La Nucía's sporting character is not limited to recreational sport. The town hosts athletes, clubs and visitors for training and events. It is precisely that combination that makes the location worth a look from an investment point of view as well.
Interesting for investors
Anyone buying a home in Spain as an investment often looks first at the distance to the beach. That makes sense, but it is not the only way to look at a location.
Destiny by Bergen offers a different proposition.
Potential demand for accommodation here does not come only from traditional sun-and-beach tourists. The presence of the sports city may also attract athletes, coaches, teams, family members and visitors staying in La Nucía for a while.
That could mean a broader target group than for an apartment that depends almost entirely on the summer season.
As a buyer's agent, we do want to add a clear caveat. An attractive target group does not automatically mean that an apartment may be let, or that a particular return is achievable. For an investor we therefore check the applicable rental rules, any restrictions from the comunidad, the running costs and the actual rental market beforehand, among other things.
It is also worth noting that Destiny offers more than holiday facilities. A parking space, storage room, coworking space and gym make longer stays more practical. For someone who wants to train in La Nucía for a few weeks or months and work in between, those are relevant features.
With two or three bedrooms you can also consider different types of user: an individual athlete staying for a longer period, a couple, a family, or several people coming to the region together for a training period.
That makes the project more interesting to run the numbers on from an investment perspective than to judge on price per square metre alone.
Outdoor living and recovery
Sport remains an important part of life within the complex too.
There will be an on-site gym, but it is above all the wellness facilities that fit the positioning. The communal wellness area will be over 200 m² and will include a jacuzzi, sauna, Turkish steam bath and cold-water shower, among other things.
So after a training session you do not necessarily have to get straight into the car. You can train in the sports city or in the on-site gym and then return to the complex to recover.
At the heart of the development there will also be an outdoor pool with a solarium. A social club and a coworking space are being built as well.
For someone who lives here permanently or for longer periods, those are more relevant facilities than if you only use the apartment for a few weeks each summer.
On the other hand, all those communal facilities have to be maintained. For investors, we therefore want to know the expected community fees before buying.
The surroundings
Destiny is not by the sea, nor in the middle of La Nucía's historic centre. That needs to suit you.
For the beach, the seafront and an evening out on the coast, you will usually take the car. According to the project information, Benidorm is about a five-minute drive away, the beaches about ten minutes and Altea about fifteen minutes. Alicante Airport is about a forty-minute drive.
For sport, it is exactly the other way round. For that, you live in a place where many facilities are within walking distance. According to the developer, the sports city is about a two-minute walk away and walking routes can be reached in around five minutes.
An international school and shops are also said to be close by.
So you do not choose this apartment because you want to walk from home to the beach with your towel. You choose a modern home in an area where sport, exercise and training facilities are an important part of the surroundings.
For the right buyer, that is exactly the appeal.

Practical points to consider
For your own use, we consider the unit number, the floor, the terrace orientation and the position relative to the communal areas the most important.
For an investment, we would look further. Not only at the purchase price, but also at community fees, annual running costs, permitted rental, expected rents and actual demand outside the high season.
The sports city makes the project interesting, but an investment must ultimately be judged on figures and legal possibilities. Not on a brochure.
